23rd Dec 2020: shortlist selected in contest to upgrade Château Lafite Rothschild wine cellars
In October this year, Because Architecture Matters launched a competition to redesign the cellars at the Château Lafite Rothschild vineyard. The project includes the restructuring and extension of the winemaking areas, with a surface area of approximately 10,500 m2. Saskia de Rothschild succeeded her father Baron Eric de Rothschild as the head of the company Domaines Barons Rothschild in 2019, and is seeking to adapt the winemaking areas to meet modern technical requirements, while retaining the character of the site.
The shortlisted teams are:
Bernard Quirot architecte & associés with Atelier EGR Architectes and SCALA Architectes
Antoine Dufour Architectes
RCR Architectes
H Architectes with Plan Comun
John Pawson with David Leclerc Architecture
In February 2021, the project proposals will be revealed and three teams selected to submit their final designs, with the winner announced in May.
