New towers set to redefine Bratislava skyline

Tendestream member KCAP has won the competition to design two new residential skyscrapers in Bratislava, set to become Slovakia’s tallest buildings. Rising to heights of 260 and 184 metres, the Eurovea Towers will redefine the city skyline, creating over 1100 new homes and contributing to the development of a new city district providing space for work and leisure, organised around compact urban living. The tower design is inspired by natural surroundings, in a city that is deeply integrated with its geography, sitting at the crossroads of the Danube River and the Carpathian Mountains.

Slender bundled volumes ascend in staggered layered formations, creating a rhythm of heights that form a new elevated topography and establish a subtle transition from the existing skyline. Communal terraces located near the crown of each tower provide extensive panoramic views. Inside, innovative floorplans are defined by highly efficient structural cores extending outwards in pinwheel formations, maximising the number of corner apartments and ensuring that residents enjoy expansive views of the Danube, the historic centre, and landscapes beyond. At the lower levels, expansive balconies establish a direct dialogue with the city. As the towers ascend in height, balconies become partially enclosed in order to balance exposure with shelter. Higher still, slender loggias offer framed panoramic perspectives of the city and countryside beyone.

At ground level, a multi-story glass pavilion links the towers to the site and to one another, fostering interaction between residents and the wider community. A lush indoor garden breathes life into the interior, which contains several cafes and casual meeting places. Extending from the pavilion, cantilevered overhangs project beyond the towers’ footprints, creating a pleasant micro climate. Winding pathways cross varied parkland areas, introducing a topography reminiscent of the nearby Danube River. The pedestrian environment benefits from bike and public transport connections, while also providing a green space for nature and relaxation within the busy urban setting.
