Lead8 design 740,000 sqm mixed-use development

The Timeless City – Riverside Paradise Walk mixed-use development has opened in Chengdu, China. The 740,000 sqm scheme is located alongside the Cheng Hua Avenue and Sha He (Sand River) on the East 2nd Ring Road of Chengdu. As a retail and social hub for the surrounding district, the central vision for the project was to create a thriving urban centre, while at the same time connecting the city district with nature.

Architectural firm Lead8 delivered a multi-disciplinary scope as the overall masterplanner, design architect, interior and signage designer for the development’s retail component. A 140,000 sqm retail mall, two SOHO, LOFT and hotel towers were created, together with a retail street comprising four SOHO towers, adjacent to a residential district. 

The design concept was inspired by the Sand River, with a dynamic architectural form extending the curved appearance of the podium to the towers. The podium extends the concept further by referencing the design of a boat hull. One of the main attractions within Timeless City is the iconic ‘crystal dome’, designed to draw visitors through to the upper levels of the development. The space features transparent glass panels for maximum visibility, providing visitors with a strong visual connection to the surrounding natural environment.
