Tenderstream members compete for Slovakian city district design

Tenderstream members KCAP, William Matthews Associates and Bjarke Ingels Group are competing as parts of teams through to the second round of the Southbank Bratislava contest. Penta Real Estate launched the competition to find a masterplan with outstanding and unique architecture, landscape, and public space design for one of the most valuable building lots suitable for development in the Slovakian capital. 

For decades, the city of Bratislava has been planning to transform the area between the two bridges on the southern bank of the Danube River into a new city centre. Penta Real Estate aims to create a central district interconnected with the already emerging downtown, while uniting the opposite sides of the river. The 210,000 GFA mixed-use development will be made up of 48% residential and 52% office and retail space. 

The teams advancing to the next stage are as follows:

• Zaha Hadid Architects

• Office for Metropolitan Architecture

• Snøhetta + Studio Egret West + gro architekti

• KCAP

• William Matthews Associates + Boele + Sadovsky & Architects + Mikhail Riches + Expedition Engineering + LOLA landscape architects + Studio Akkerhuis

Honourable mentions were given to the teams below, who will not be competing in the second round:

• Vietzke & Borstelmann Architekten + GTL + IADC

• Mandaworks + Between

The shortlisted teams now have until 8th February 2023 to submit their designs for the second stage of the competition.
