Live Nation announces opening date for The Terminal in Houston
The world’s leading live entertainment company, Live Nation, has revealed the first details and announced a November 2021 opening date for The Terminal, a new 5,000-capacity music venue in Houston, Texas. Designed by TenderStream members OMA as part of the firm’s vision for the city’s POST Houston development, the Terminal will form a key part of the overall scheme to transform the historic Barbara Jordan Post Office into a hub for culture, food, shopping and recreation.
The design for The Terminal is intended to create a distinctive, one-of-a-kind experience for both performers and fans by replicating the intimate feel of a small club. When artists are on stage, the audience will appear in their line of sight as completely filling the space, as all aisles and walkways are designed at angles so that the artists see only people. Above the general admission space, there will be seated balconies called ‘Tribune Tiers’ that provide guests with an intimate viewing experience, despite not being on the floor of the venue. The term ‘Tribune Tiers’ derives from the meaning of tribune as ‘a person who upholds or defends the rights of the people’. The venue will combine industrial materials such as fibreglass grating, polycarbonate and aluminised fabric with an array of ephemeral multi-coloured lighting effects to create a machine for spectacle.
Sherri Sosa, president of Venue Nation, stated: “The Terminal will be a great addition to the live music scene in Houston giving artists and fans more options to connect at concerts. We look forward to the Terminal bringing hundreds of shows to the city once it opens its doors, not only delivering some great live music but also creating new jobs for the community.”
